Downtown Oakland isn’t all about #Occupy these days. A pair of images from Kaiser Permanente’s Thrive campaign are also looming large over the scene, featuring the cute, warmer-wrapped legs of some young models I shot in London’s Hyde Park. I shot them together, but Kaiser’s agency team thought they worked best apart.

This weekend I had a few moments to spend some quality time with the final ads, which may in fact be the largest ever outputs of my work.

Last summer, I met with ex Avon CD, Fiona Ip, to talk about testing. Over lychee cocktails (nothing better on a humid NYC day!), we started the conversation that has now become three shoots in five days. More soon on that…

Occupy Wall Street is an ongoing series of demonstrations in New York City based in Zuccotti Park, formerly “Liberty Plaza Park”. The protest was originally called for by the Canadian activist group Adbusters; it took inspiration from the Arab Spring movement.

The participants of the event are mainly protesting against social and economic inequality, corporate greed, and the influence of corporate money and lobbyists on government, among other concerns. Adbusters states that, “Beginning from one simple demand – a presidential commission to separate money from politics – we start setting the agenda for a new America.”

The protest’s organizers hope that the protesters themselves will formulate their own specific demands, expecting them to be focused on “taking to task the people who perpetrated the economic meltdown.

“Sundance Film Festival Style Night Out” Events Kick Off in San Francisco, Helping Women Take on their Winter Adventures in Style

On Wednesday, October 19, the Timberland retail store in San Francisco will kick-off the free event series, treating guests to one-on-one consultations with famed stylist Maggie Hong, great music from DJ Lora and more. Each event, including New York and Boston later in the month, will feature local entertainment, local style experts, professional photographers, and winter-themed cocktails provided by Svedka Vodka.

“These Style Night Out events are a fun way for women to get together with friends and experience a taste of the Sundance Film Festival in their own backyards,” said Maile Buker, senior director of North America marketing, Timberland. “With cold and snowy weather a hallmark of the Sundance Film Festival, women often sacrifice style for warmth. Or vice versa. After checking out the new winter collection from Timberland, women will be ready to take on the elements with confidence, knowing they’ll look great and be protected all season long.”

Fashion photographer Caroline Schiff  will capture each guest’s customized look against a wintry backdrop reminiscent of Park City, Utah, home of the Sundance Film Festival.

They also really like the on-set shots, and have added them to their Facebook page. Lots of shots of me in awkward positions while shooting. No wonder I spend half my time at my chiro’s office!

“Real Beauties” is the title of the June issue of Italian Vogue, which highlights women with more shape than the typical model. Steven Meisel shot the feature in a private home in Los Angeles.

Italian Vogue is hardly the first magazine to show curvaceous women — American Vogue has long had a shape issue — but last year its editor, Franca Sozzani, started an online column called Curvy that has become popular. And she has been critical of Web sites that promote excessive thinness among young women.
